End-to-end automated packaging system streamlines e-commerce operation
Automation of the entire packing operation has streamlined the process for one online only retailer, with a full system supplied by YPS.
The system achieves improved throughput, compared with the retailer’s previous labour-intensive method, while reducing the pack bench count from 15 to 6. This saving ensures payback of the whole automated system in less than 12 months.
The System - end-to-end automated packaging
The complete system includes Infeed, bagging and auto labelling machine and end of line automatic sortation. The complete solution is fully supported by YPS’ included service contract, delivered by our own team of specialist engineers.
The fully automated system includes 3 key components:
An 8m-long staged infeed conveyor, fed by the 6 pack benches, situated with 3 on each side.
A Flexo E-com automated bagging machine, which forms tight mailing packs around the products. It features an integrated Videojet thermal print labelling system, with advanced data handling for full GDPR compliance.
Finally, an automated sortation system at the end of the line that sends each finished pack to the correct carrier network dispatch point.
In addition, YPS is supplying fully recyclable, 70%+ recycled content printed film, from which the automated bagging machine creates the mailing pack. The printed element elevates the brand presence on the finished mailing bag.
The Result - high-speed operation with reduced costs
YPS MD Glyn Johnson commented, “We supply all sorts of operations with a range of automated packaging equipment and materials. This includes full systems, such as this, where we co-ordinate the supply of the different elements to achieve the customer’s packaging aims.”
The result of the new investment is a fluid, high-speed operation preparing over 600 packs per hour of luxury home textiles for mailing to customers, while reducing head count on the line by 9.
