YPS COLLABORATES WITH BIGHAM’S TO ENHANCE SUSTAINABILITY CREDENTIALS
Creating a sustainable and reduced-plastic solution for Bigham's delicious meals using Bollore's latest innovation, BFFri - the world's first 30% recycled content shrinkable film.
The B-Corp-certified company already possessed excellent sustainability credentials, and Bigham's knew more could be done. The delicious prepared meals brand sought help in boosting its green efforts by packaging its meals with a new shrink film. Read on to discover how YPS helped bring this vision to life for the well-known brand.
The Challenge
In the modern market, the consumer rules, and Bigham's knows this. Demand for sustainable products with green packaging continues to grow as awareness around its impact on the planet gathers momentum. In 2022, as part of its commitment to sustainability, the company identified the need to enhance the credentials of its packaging. Bigham's acknowledged the need to reduce its carbon footprint and the amount of virgin plastic used in its packaging and increase the amount of recycled content to enhance its credentials further.
The Solution
To help Bigham's reach its goal, Sales Director Josh Gibson visited the company's HQ to offer a solution that would integrate into its existing packaging operation. After analysing Charlie Bigham's current packaging operation, Josh proposed a BFFri anti-fog shrink film with>30% recycled content - one of the thinnest packaging films in the world. This versatile material is extremely lightweight, fully recyclable, and could be integrated into the company's packaging machinery.
In collaboration with procurement, the sustainability team and engineering, the YPS team went into Charlie Bigham's and fully implemented the new material to ensure it ran smoothly through the business's system. Over 12 months, this process was optimised to ensure enhanced efficiency and has now been in place at Charlie Bigham's ever since.
The Result
The final solution created by the YPS team has been seamlessly integrated into Bigham's packaging operation. The BFFri shrink wrap, manufactured by Bollore and exclusively supplied in the UK by YPS has resulted in an immediate 10,000kg reduction in annual packaging weight and a 12.31% reduction in plastic for Charlie Bigham's.
The company has also managed to reduce its carbon footprint by approximately 35%. This accomplishment demonstrates a genuine commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. By reducing its impact, the company has lowered its carbon emissions and improved its overall credentials. This remarkable achievement should be celebrated and recognised as a significant step towards a more sustainable future.
Category Buyer, James Rhodes, commented:
"Collaborating with YPS to implement a new packaging material has significantly impacted our business operations. We've drastically enhanced our sustainability credentials by reducing our carbon footprint and reliance on plastic. The service and support offered by Josh and the team have been invaluable, and their professionalism is unrivalled. I cannot recommend them enough."
